Therapy Approach

What To Expact

I don’t believe that people, or therapy, fit into rigid categories. Instead, I adapt my style by drawing from different methods to meet your unique needs. Our work together is collaborative, evidence-based, and grounded in compassion. I strive to create a safe and supportive space where you can deepen self-knowledge, process trauma, work through anxiety and mood changes, strengthen both interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships, practice self-acceptance, and navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity and resilience.

I draw from a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, tailored to your unique needs and goals:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Offers practical strategies to recognize and change unhelpful thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Provides tools for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and healthier relationships.

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI): Supports you in exploring readiness for change and strengthening your own motivation to move forward.

  • Psychodynamic Therapy: Brings deeper insight by examining patterns, past experiences, and underlying emotions that influence your present life.

  • Humanistic Therapy: fostering self-awareness and self-acceptance through empathy and unconditional positive regard, with a focus on personal growth

  • Intro call — to understand your goals and fit. We’ll start with a brief introductory session to see if we’re a good match. This gives you space to share what you’re looking for and ask any questions before beginning therapy.

  • Clear focus areas, no rush — Together we’ll set priorities that feel right for you and move forward in a way that’s both manageable and supportive.

  • Homework when useful — reflection is always welcome. At times, I may suggest practical exercises or reflections to deepen your growth between sessions. These are always tailored to you and meant to enrich, not overwhelm, your process

  • Insurance & reimbursement - If you come with a GP referral through Therapeutisch Centrum Leiden, sessions are covered by Dutch basic health insurance. In my private practice, I am registered with an AGB code, which often makes partial reimbursement possible depending on your insurer and specific policy. This means that, whether through the health insurance system or privately, there are accessible options to help reduce the financial burden of therapy.

  • Online or in-person in Leiden — Sessions are 60 minutes, offered in the format that best suits your lifestyle and comfort. The first intake session lasts up to 90 minutes, allowing us enough time to explore your background, goals, and needs in depth. Both online and in-person meetings provide the same level of care, presence, and confidentiality.

Relationship patterns
Therapy helps you understand recurring dynamics in relationships and develop healthier, more fulfilling connections.
Self-esteem & Self-identity
I support clients in exploring and strengthening their sense of self-worth and identity, helping them build confidence and live more authentically.

Pricing

To keep mental health support accessible, I use a needs-based approach to pricing. I set aside a limited fund for clients facing financial challenges, so I can adjust fees based on individual circumstances. This way, I can support people where they are financially while also sustaining my practice and continuing to invest in professional development. Ongoing training allows me to deliver high-quality care and continually strengthen the support I provide.

“From our very first session, I felt safe and not judged. Guram’s way of helping me notice the difference between thoughts and feelings gave me real clarity. My anxiety eased as I adjusted to life in a new country.”
